Above: Label image of Coral 65018 recorded on September 22, 1949 and released in October 1949. Both sides were composed by Howard Biggs and Joe Thomas (who was involved in forming The Beavers). John Wilson sings lead on "If You See Tears..." and Fred Hamilton does the honor on the flip side.

This is the first of three releases by The Beavers on Coral (1949-50). They also had one release, without label credit, on Sittin in with (1949) and one, as The Hamptones, on Decca (1950).

Trade Magazine Clipping:
Joe Thomas Named Decca R.&B. Mahoff
NEW YORK, Apr. 29, 1950 — Joe Thomas, well-known jazz saxophonist, composer and arranger, has been named director of Decca Records' blues and rhythm department, it was announced by David Kapp, vice-president of the firm.
For the past few years, Thomas has been free-lancing as a vocal coach, and is famed for his work with such groups as the Ravens and the Beavers. A native of Muskogee, Okla., he launched his professional career as a saxophone player with the late Jellyroll Morton, one of America's top jazz pioneers. Thomas has also served as an arranger for Glen Gray, Raymond Scott and Woody Herman.
(Note: Joe Thomas should not be confused with his namesake, who gained distinction as a tenor sax man with the late Jimmie Lunceford, and who at present records for King Records.)
