Above: Harriett Callender and Warren Suttles. The Dreamers, on the two Mercury releases featured here, are Callender, Suttles (baritone), Percy Green (tenor) and Freddy Francis (baritone). Suttles was an original member of The Ravens when they formed in 1946. When The Dreamers broke up in late 1952, he rejoined The Ravens.

Above: Label images of Mercury 5843 recorded and released in April 1952 and Mercury 70019 recorded and released in October 1952. This specific aggregation of The Dreamers also had one release on Jubilee in March 1951. With Joe Van Loan replacing Callender, they backed up Wini Brown as "Her Boyfriends" on Mercury 8270 in February 1952 and Arnett Cobb on two Okeh sides in September and December 1952.

The flip of Mercury 5843 was composed by "Bill Sanford" and both sides of Mercury 70019 by "Suttles-Sanford"/"Sanford-Suttles." Bill Sanford was the long-time arranger/pianist for The Ravens, starting with them in 1949.

The hit version of "I May Hate Myself In The Morning" was by Bette McLaurin And Her Friends (The Striders) on the Derby label in 1952. Other vocal groups to record this song in 1952 include Steve Gibson And The Original Red Caps (RCA Victor), The Lancers (Coral) and The Four Lads (Okeh).

A version of "Walkin' My Blues Away" was issued on Mercury 70240 in 1953 by The Ravens, with Jimmy Ricks singing lead. "Ain't Gonna Worry" was recorded by The Ravens for Mercury, but not released.

The Billboard Review (5/24/52):

THE DREAMERS—MERCURY 5843
I'm Gonna Hate Myself In The Morning
(72) The foursome harmonizes effectively in this bluesy etching, a cover job on the tune that has been creating some action. A likely juke platter. New group has a good sound.
Ain't Gonna Worry No More (66) Highly-stylized treatment of another bluesy bit is sold convincingly by the combo.

The Billboard Review (12/27/52):

THE DREAMERS—MERCURY 70019
Walkin' My Blues Away
(74) The vocal group and jazz combo deliver an effective, hand-clapping blues item. Gimmicked opening, a hot tenor and the driving beat are all strong ingredients for an above average disking.
Please Don't Leave Me (72) More good wax as the group teams for another rocker.

(NOTE: Ratings had a range of 0-100 with 60-69 as "satisfactory" and 70-79 as "good.")
