Savannah And Striders

Above: Savannah and The Striders also recorded together for Arco (1950) and RCA Victor (1952). The Striders also backed up Bette McLaurin on Derby (1952) and recorded on their own for the Capitol (1948), Derby (1954) and Apollo (1950) labels.

FROM MARV GOLDBERG 2/17/03: The Striders, on record, according to Charles Strider, always consisted of Eugene Strider, Charles Strider, James Strider, and Ernest Griffin. There was a guy named Al Martin who was a fill-in singer for them on many occasions over the years, but he never recorded with them.

At left is a January 1951 Billboard Ad for Regal 3309.

Regal began in July 1949. It was a collaboration between the Braun Brothers and Fred Mendelsohn. The Brauns had formed the DeLuxe label in 1944, but it was taken over by King Records in 1947.

The first release was Regal 3229 "Hand Writing On The Wall", a spiritual by Edna Gallman Cooke. The label folded in late 1951.

Other artists to record for Regal were Paul Gayton, Annie Laurie, Larry Darnell, The Magichords, Melody Echoes, Harmony Kings, Colemans, and Jubilators.
